Exfoliative glaucoma is the most common type of secondary open angle glaucoma

It develops in approximately 15 to 26% of eyes with exfoliation syndrome within 5 years and frequently causes severe visual field loss. To identify exfoliation material pupil dilation is recommended. When exfoliative glaucoma is present in one eye, the fellow eye must also be carefully followed due to high probability of development of glaucoma.
