Obituary for Professor Erik Greve

The European Glaucoma Society mourns the passing of Professor Erik Greve, a defining figure in the history of the EGS. From the very beginning, he was at the heart of the Society’s creation, driven by the vision of bringing glaucoma specialists together across Europe to exchange knowledge, experience and ideas.

He served as EGS President from 1988 to 2000, helping to shape the Society through some of its most formative years, before playing a central role in fostering wider international collaboration and in the development of what would become the World Glaucoma Association.

Much of the way we understand international glaucoma societies today — open, collaborative and committed to sharing knowledge across borders — bears the imprint of his work. The EGS pays tribute, with gratitude and respect, to a leader whose legacy will remain part of our Society for generations to come.
